Teller Government Cashiering supports every payment type your citizens use — from cash and checks to credit cards and mobile wallets. The system handles multiple tenders in a single transaction, calculates change automatically, and routes each payment type to the appropriate settlement process.
Accepted Payment Methods
Cash
- Currency — All denominations, with optional bill/coin counting
- Coin — Manual entry or coin counter integration
- Foreign currency — Configurable for border communities (if enabled)
- Change calculation — Automatic, with suggested denomination breakdown
Checks
- Personal checks — With optional ID verification prompts
- Business checks — Corporate and government checks
- Cashier's checks — Bank-issued guaranteed funds
- Money orders — Postal and commercial money orders
- Check scanning — Capture check images for records and remote deposit
Cards
- Credit cards — Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Discover
- Debit cards — PIN and signature debit
- EMV chip — Industry-standard chip card security
- Contactless/NFC — Tap-to-pay cards, Apple Pay, Google Pay
- HSA/FSA cards — For eligible fee types (where configured)

Split Tender Transactions
Citizens often want to pay with multiple methods. Teller handles this seamlessly:

The cashier enters each tender, Teller tracks the remaining balance, and a single receipt shows the complete transaction with both payment methods.

Convenience Fees
For card payments, Teller supports:
- Flat fees — Fixed dollar amount per transaction
- Percentage fees — Percentage of payment amount
- Hybrid — Percentage with minimum/maximum caps
- Absorbed fees — Agency pays processing costs (no citizen fee)
- Fee display — Clear disclosure before payment completion
Fee structures are configurable by department, payment type, and channel (in-person vs. online).
Online Payments (Teller Online)
For self-service payments through your website, Teller Online supports:
- Credit and debit cards — Same card types as in-person
- eCheck/ACH — Bank account payments with lower processing costs
- Payment scheduling — Citizens can schedule future payments
- Recurring payments — Automatic payments for ongoing obligations
